Have you re-released this patch?No - A change in how Windows Update scans and offers this update was introduced on December 9th which prompted users who were not at risk to download it. There has been no change to the update, and customers who were vulnerable were offered the update when it was first released in November.
What are the FrontPage Server Extensions?FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) is a set of tools that can be installed on a web site. They serve two basic functions: to allow authorized personnel to manage the server, add or change content, and perform other tasks; and to add functions that are frequently used by web pages, such as search and forms support.FPSE installs by default as part of IIS 4.0, 5.0 and 5.1. Only Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Datacenter install IIS by default. IIS can be uninstalled if desired. Like Windows, Office is susceptible to security problems and every effort should be made to update Microsoft Office or indeed any office suite with product updates, patches and fixes. Updates can provide enhanced performance, new features, bug fixes and security updates. At the heart of the Handheld PC experience is Microsoft's Personal Information Manager (PIM) and corporate e-mail solution, Microsoft Outlook.
Outlook has not always been a part of the Office suite of products. Outlook 97 was the first version. However Outlook 97 is not supported by ActiveSync and so cannot be used in conjunction with your Handheld PC. Before Office 97, the PIM and e-mail functionality of office and indeed Windows was a little hazy. Outlook came to exist through the merging of 3 programs. 'Mail' (not to be confused with MS Mail & News which became Outlook Express), the later Windows Exchange module 'Inbox' and Schedule+. All of which were components of Windows 3 / NT 3 and Windows 95 / NT4.
My memory seems to tell me they they did, which would mean my 2000 version should be probably be tossed away. I often get email with Microsoft Word attachments that I find cumbersome to try to open, and I don't need a very sophisticated word or spreadsheet program.
I have MS Office 2000 Professional SP3 installed on a Vista SP2 computer, and I am able to open/edit/save files created in MS Office 2007 and higher versions that use Open XML Formats (e.g., docx, .xlsx, etc.) because I installed the Office Compatibility Pack (available for download at -us/download/details.aspx?id=3 for XP and Vista). The bigger problem you might have is that Windows Updates can be incredibly slow these days on on Vista SP2 machines (see for a possible workaround if you are affected these slow updates) and installing 9 years worth of updates to patch Microsoft Office 2000 to Service Pack 3 (SP3) could be difficult. Microsoft Office 2000 has also reached the end of extended support (i.e., it has not been patched for security vulnerabilities for several years) which makes using this old version of MS Office inherently risky.
If you try to install the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 2.1 with a SAS installation kit that is earlier than Rev: 37, you might receive the following pop-up window: The SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office Setup Wizard could not locate Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 or greater on this computer. You must first install the required version of Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel before installing SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office. Click OK to exit the Setup Wizard.The above message will occur if the only Office version installed is Office 2007 and the SAS installation Kit is earlier than Rev: 37.If the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 2.1 is already installed with an Office version earlier than Office 2007 installed, you can apply the latest SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office hot fix and then install Office 2007.
